Mumbai : Seven tahsildars from Nasik district were suspended in connection with the rationing scam on Wednesday. Though the union has threatened a stir, the government has said that it will stand firm on its action.
“The tahsilldars from Surgana tehisl in Nashik district have been involved in corruption of more than Rs 7 crore and hence the action taken against them is correct and legal,” minister for food and supplies Girish Bapat told reporters here.
The tahsildars’ union has threatened to stop work if the decision is not reverted in a week’s time. “Suspension is an extreme action. The person needs to be given a chance to defend himself. The government action against the tahsildars in Nasik district is unilateral and hence against the principles of natural justice. The officials have not been implicated in any of the inquiries,” Suresh Bagle, the working president of the tahsildar association, said in a letter written to the chief minister.
