Mumbai : Legislative Council chairman Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar directed the State government to prepare a policy for redevelopment of BDD chawl in next three months.
Kiran Pawaskar raised the issue of redevelopment of BDD chawl which was supported by Bhai Jagtap of the Congress party. There are 207 buildings in the city constructed on 87 acres of land during 1921 t0 1925. The buildings are in dilapidated condition and need urgent redevelopment.
Replying on the query, housing minister Prakash Mehta said that the procedure of redevelopment of the BDD chawl is under way. “Very soon the buildings will be redeveloped as per section 33(9) of Development Control Rule of the BMC,” he said.
“MHADA will be the nodal agency for redevelopment of BDD chawls. The work will be completed in next 90 days. The government is seeking no objection certificate (NOC) from the environment department. Even public works department (PWD) will carry out survey of the buildings and initiate repairs of the buildings if required,” Mehta said.
