Bhayandar : A 45-year-old goon-turned-politician was found hanging in his apartment at Mira Road on Saturday afternoon.
According to the police, Hafiz Baloch (45) was found hanging to the ceiling fan of his seventh floor apartment in Holy Complex. Baloch was alone in the flat when he took the extreme step as his family was away in Aurangabad.
In the suicide note recovered from the flat, Baloch stated that he was taking the step due to his inability to repay a Rs.70 lakh loan, police said.
A notorious goon who later turned into a politician, Baloch drew close to an influential Shiv Sena leader of the region. However, Baloch shifted his loyalties and unsuccessfully contested the 2012-civic polls on a Congress ticket. While the body has been sent for post-mortem, a suicidal death case has been registered at the Navghar police station.
