Mumbai : Expanding its e-services interface, Maharashtra government is all set to bring the process for issuing caste, birth and death certificates online from next month.

The state government has decided to provide 50 of the 150 notified services under the Right to Services Act online starting from October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Additional Chief Secretary, General Administration Department, PS Meena, said that the RTS Act will be linked to the government’s grievance redress portal, ‘Aaple Sarkar’.

“Citizens can apply for caste, death and birth certificates, make online payments and the certificate will be delivered at home,” Meena said, adding that 150 services had already been notified under the RTS Act for time-bound delivery. Some services of the revenue, food and civil supplies and transport departments can also be availed online, he added. Likewise, citizens need not visit the RTO for applying for a driving licence as that, too, can be done online.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Devendra Fadnavis-led Maharashtra government completing a year in office, the Chief Minister’s Office has asked all departments to list various the decisions taken by them during this period.

“A booklet highlighting the achievements will be released,” said Meena. BJP had formed its first-ever government in the state on October 31, 2014, and was joined later by its ally Shiv Sena.
