Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Friday allowed Pune’s German Bakery blast convict Mirza Himayat Baig, an Indian Mujahideen operative, to be shifted to Pune’s Yerwada prison from Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail due to space crunch. A division bench of Justice V M Kanade and Justice M S Sonak was hearing an application filed by the superintendent of Arthur Road jail to shift Baig to Pune’s prison until his appeal against conviction comes up for hearing before the High Court. The appeal, as well as state’s plea for confirmation of Baig’s death sentence, is expected to come up for hearing on January 5 when the court would fix a date for final hearing. On February 13, 2010 a bomb exploded inside the German Bakery in Koregaon Park area of Pune, killing 17 persons including five foreigners and injuring more than 60. A Pune court in April 2013 awarded death penalty to Baig observing that it was a rarest of rare case.
