Cops from Tulinj police station in Nallasopara east, laid a trap and nabbed six youths with three country-made revolvers, six live bullets, half a dozen knives and five mobile phones making this one of the biggest caches of arms in recent years in Vasai Taluka

Palghar : Cops from Tulinj police station in Nallasopara east, at around 6pm on August 14, nabbed six suspicious youths from the old toll plaza on Tulinj road and found them loaded with arms and ammunition as they had planned to bump off their target. While the target was kept a secret by the cops, they did agree that these arrests were linked to the recent shootout on Tuesday night in which Javed Ansari was grievously injured and is still recovering in a private hospital. The cops also informed that all the six had planned the operation at a very micro level and were also being supported by some local who had financed this operation.

Acting on a confirmed tip off, the cops from Tulinj police station laid a trap near old toll plaza on the Tulinj road and confronted a group which was suspiciously wandering. When questioned, these youths attacked these cops in which three cops received minor bruises, but were soon overpowered. Post searching the cops found this huge cache of arms on them and immediately took everyone in custody. These youths were loaded with three sophisticated country-made revolvers, six live bullets, half a dozen knives and five mobile phones.

Denying that this could fuel gang war in Vasai-Virar Palghar additional SP Shrikrishna Kokate said, “This wasn’t a case of gang war. But yes, this is linked to the shootout that happened couple of days ago. We are still investigating the people behind this as the entire operation was sponsored. We will invoke stringent sections on them and make a watertight case.”

Sources confirmed that half of the arrested youths have criminal records and it would have been very easy to source them.

Kokate further confirmed, “Major crimes have increased in Nallasopara but at the same time we have been successful in detecting them early as well.”
