Mumbai : The important first-timer in the BJP first list for the Lok Sabha elections is the former national president of the party, Nitin Gadkari who will contest from Nagpur. Gadkari has been a member of the Legislative Council and now will face elections for the first time against the AAP activist who exposed Gadkari in two alleged scams and has promised to expose five more incidents against the BJP leader.
A formidable BJP candidate against Praful Patel in Gondiya is an independent legislator Nana Patole. Hi first LS elections, Patole will contest on a BJP ticket, a decision that the party thinks will land the former aviation minister in a tight spot. An expected repeat for BJP is the formidable leader Gopinath Munde, who has been given the responsibility to manage the party’s elections at the state level. Actor and theatre personality Nandu Madhva from AAP will contest from Beed, against Munde. Among the other BJP names are Sanjay Dhotre from Akola, AT Patil from Jalgaon, Nana Patole Bhandara Gondia, Hansraj Ahir from Chandrapur, Raosahev Danwe from Jalna, Harishchandra Chavan from Dindori, Ashok Nete from Gadhchiroli and Haribhau Jawale from Raver.
Meanwhile, there was high drama over one seat in Nandurbar in Maharashtra: BJP CEC had finalised the name of Heena Gavit, daughter of Vijaykumar Gavit (tainted Cabinet miniser from NCP in Maharashtra). Munde and Devendra Phadnavis met Rajnath and asked him to hold this name.
Among the 17 candidates from Maharashtra in the first list, the party decided to field Kirit Somaiah from Mumbai North-East instead of Poonam Mahajan, daughter of BJP’s late leader Pramod Mahajan, who was vying for the seat.
BJP has fielded cancer surgeon Subhash Bhamre from Dhule seat, sitting MPs Ashok Tapiram Patil and Sanjya Javle from Raver and Akola seats, sitting MLA Nana Patole from Bhandara-Gondiya seat and state president of the ST Morcha Ashok Nete from Gadchiroli-Chimur (ST) seat. from Jalna seat and Harishchandra Chowhan from Dindori
(ST) seat, while former MPs D B Patil and
Chintaman Vangna will contest from Nanded and Palghar (ST) seats. Dilip Gandhi will contest from Ahmadnagar and former MLA Sanjaykaka Patil from Sangli in Maharashtra.
