Mumbai : BJP leader Pravin Darekar has said that the complaint against the chairman and directors of the Mumbai District Central Cooperative Bank is malafide and meant to malign the image of the directors and the bank, as the election for the board of directors is nearing.
Darekar has been the chairman of the bank for the past one year. Last week, the Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai police had registered a first information report (FIR) against him and other directors based on a written complaint submitted by Mumbai BJP secretary Vivekanad Gupta. In the written complaint, Gupta alleged that the directors were involved in fraud, forgery and embezzlement of funds from the bank amounting to over Rs 123 crore.
Darekar refuted the allegations made by Gupta. He said that Gupta had malafide intentions as the bank took action against some credit societies that had defaulted on loans given by the bank. “These credit societies’ directors are relatives of Gupta. He has filed a complaint to take revenge for the same,” he said.
