Mumbai: Keeping in mind the ageing population of India, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri and his ministry have developed a regulatory framework for retired homes. He was speaking at the ninth anniversary celebration of ‘Moneylife Foundation’ which was held in BSE, Mumbai. This work was initiated after taking a cue from the suggestions made by Moneylife co-founder Sucheta Dalal, said the minister. “She suggested the creation of a template for retired people to live in. The process started several months ago and is nearing completion,” Puri added.

He claimed that the draft was prepared in consultation with all stakeholders. “I will be in the position to write to chief ministers and send this draft across to them,” Puri stated. Mentioning Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme, he revealed that around 1.4 million houses have been handed over to beneficiaries under this scheme. Under the ‘Housing For All’ scheme, the government had promised to sanction 10 million homes by 2022. “We have sanctioned 7.2 million homes so far. Before the code of conduct kicks in, we will increase this figure to 7.5 million or more.”
