Mumbai : The Mumbai police arrested five youngsters for allegedly kidnapping the 17-year-old son of a city-based builder in Agripada at knifepoint and extorting Rs 10 lakh as ransom. One of the main accused, Harish Khan (19), a college student, was also earlier arrested in November by the Amboli police for kidnapping and beating up another college student and recording the incident on a mobile – all because he got close to a female friend of Khan’s.

The victim in this case, Mohammed Umar, has known Khan for the past two years. They had struck up a friendship after the latter had helped Umar deal with some boys who were troubling him and charged him Rs 60,000 for the job. This time, however, Khan targeted Umar himself for easy money and ordered three youngsters from Bandra to kidnap him from Agripada.

The three accused – Faiz Abdul Ghani Shaikh, Raibar Umar Qureshi and Shahbaz Imtiaz Shaikh – are all 19-year-olds and kidnapped Umar at knifepoint near Classic Tower in Agripada at 7.45 pm on Saturday and took him around various places in Central and Western Mumbai.
