Mumbai : The BMC continued its inspection drive against all hotels and restaurants in the city on Tuesday, and inspected over 225 hotels.
Of these, the civic body has initiated action against 50 hotels.
The BMC has given these hotels and restaurants a period of seven days for compliance with fire safety norms. If they fail to do so, the civic body will initiate legal action against them.
The BMC inspected 10 hotels in A, D, E, F (South) wards, G south, G (North), M (East), N, S and T wards. It also inspected seven hotels in B ward, six hotels in F(North) ward, four in P (south) and three in L ward.
Among the inspected hotels were some prominent ones scuh as a CCD outlet in the N ward, Hotel Kailash Parbat and Hotel Mainland China in L ward, Kareem’s in P (South) ward, Hotel Chandragupt in G(North), a Dominos Pizza outlet in G(South) ward and Bangalora Iyengar Bakery in the S ward.
After a fire at Kurla’s Hotel City Kinara on Friday claimed the lives of eight people, BMC chief Ajoy Mehta had directed all ward officers to inspect all grade one, two and three hotels in Mumbai to ckeck how fire-safe they are and set up special squads for the purpose.
