A major fire broke out at a chemical godown in Daulat compound, Rahanal village of Bhiwandi in Maharashtra's Thane district on Wednesday afternoon at 1 pm.
No casualties and injuries were reported. According to fire officials, the chemicals were stored in the drums and kept in the godown. The four fire engine rushed to spot. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.
Bhiwandi fire station officials said, "We received a call nearly 1.20 PM after which we rushed two fire tenders to the spot. Two fire tenders came from Bhiwandi, one fire tender from Kalyan and one from Thane rushed to spot."
Rajesh Pawar, fire officer from Bhiwandi fire station said, "The fire was brought to under control within six hours. The cooling operation has begun."
Reportedly, 20 to 25 chemicals drums exploded in the godown area. The surrounding villagers said that after the blast, they felt breathless and black smoke spread in the entire area.
The fire officials said that solvent chemicals were stored in the godown. These chemicals are mostly used in every industry but specially it is used in dyeing companies and powerloom factories.
