Mumbai: A massive fire broke out at the Vashi branch of Bank of Maharashtra on Thursday morning in which the bank has suffered loss of Rs 50 lakh. It is speculated that the sudden fire erupted due to short circuit in an air conditioner unit. Althou-gh there was no injury, an FIR has been registered in Vashi Police station for accidental fire. On Thursday morning around 8 am, Vashi fire station got call regarding the fire at the Vashi branch of Bank of Maharashtra located in sector 2 near the CIDCO office. Immedi-ately, four fire engines with 15 to 20 firemen were sent on the spot. It took almost 5 hours for the fire brigade to douse the fire completely. “Although the fire was doused till 10.30 am, the heavy smoke coming up took more time for fire brigade to bring the situation under control”, said Vashi station’s fire official Manoj Pakdune.
