Palghar : An FIR was registered against another Assistant Municipal Commissioner (AMC) of the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) on Monday for allegedly turning a blind eye towards illegal constructions on the reservation plot in her ward. This FIR, a second one in the last fortnight, has embarrassed the VVMC and its work culture wherein reservation plots have been encroached upon in the last five years or so.
Even this FIR spoke about the use of the bogus Non-Agriculture (NA) certificate and Commencement Certificate (CC) that was used to get the required approvals, which was the case in the earlier FIR filed against another AMC, Sudhakar Sankhe, on October 20, for which he faced suspension.
In the FIR, VVMC AMC Neelam Nijai, along with two other developers namely Umesh Patil and Dinkar Pawar, was accused of ignoring the use of bogus documents and not demolishing illegal structures on the reserved plot (survey number 125, hissa number 3,6,8 in Nana-Nani park, Manvelpada, Virar east). Currently, around 400 families have occupied flats in 55 odd illegal buildings and would be rendered homeless if the encroached buildings were to be demolished.
Nijai cried foul and said, “I was given the letter by the Town Planning (TP) department today (October 27) to check the status of the reserved plot and take appropriate action, whereas the FIR was registered yesterday (October 26). It’s the TP department’s job to provide permissions and scrutinise the documents.”
