Mumbai : Following a complaint filed by the BMC, an FIR has been registered against a senior manager of Grand Hyatt hotel on Wednesday. The FIR against the senior employee of the luxury hotel mentions the hotel authorities indulging in irregularities in its construction, mainly in its lobby area.
Abhijit Sawai, an assistant engineer of the BMC, had earlier lodged the complaint with Vakola police station.
According to city police sources, a team of BMC H East ward had visited the hotel two years ago on May 4, 2013 and noticed certain irregularities in the lobby of the hotel.
Later the H East ward engineering team had sent a notice to the hotel pointing out the illegal constructions. “But the hotel authorities never cared to correct the irregularities in spite of the same being pointed out and a formal notice being sent to them long ago. This forced us to finally lodge a police complaint,” said a BMC source.
However, hotel officials allege the FIR is politically motivated.
“We have registered an FIR under section 53/7 of MRTP act. No arrest has been made yet in this connection. We are investigating the matter,” said Mahadev Vavle, a senior police inspector at Vakola police station.
