Aurangabad : Popular Bollywood actor Nana Patekar has appealed to farmers to refrain themselves from committing suicide and said that their families need some support and not merely sympathy.
Patekar was speaking at a programme organized in Beed on Sunday to distribute Rs 15,000 in financial aid to the kin of 112 farmers who have committed suicides.
He said that there are many generous people in our society who drop money into donation boxes placed in temples. But donating the same money to the
Farmers in Beed district have committed suicide due to the failure of their crops, unpredictable weather and for not having the money to repay their loans and keeping these facts in the mind, one should realise that they need support in the form of money, Patekar added.
At the same time, he made a fervent appeal to farmers to not commit suicide and assured them that he will be by them when they are in crisis. He also said that the government needs to do something drastic for the troubled farmers.
The programme he was apeaking at was organised by a popular Marathi actor, Makarant Anaspure, who is born and brought up in Beed district, for extending concrete support to the families of the farmers who have committed suicide.
Praising Makrand for the noble and humanitarian cause, Patekar said that he deserves people’s participation in the cause launched by him.
