Bhayandar: To promote vasectomy operation in males, the government-endorsed family planning activity conducted by the health department in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) is facilitating men with free of cost non-scalpel vasectomy along with cash incentive, yet the misconceptions continue to haunt males and keeping them away from this surgical procedure of sterilisation.

While only one male in the entire Mira Bhayandar region had undergone the non-scalpel vasectomy for family planning since the programme was launched in June this year. The figures stated that the civic body however, managed to get a better response from women as 125 of them had opted for tubular sterilization (tubectomy) in the past two months. This despite the fact that the MBMC has offered Rs 2000 in addition to the existing government incentive of Rs 1,100 to encourage more men to enroll themselves for vasectomies at the special camps held every second Tuesday of each month at the Bharat Ratna Indira Gandhi Municipal Hospital in Mira Road.  —(Our Correspondent)
