Fake escort service:  3 held for cheating

Mumbai : The Cyber Cell of the Mumbai police on Thursday arrested three men who allegedly cheated several persons on the pretext of a fake escort services agency.

The arrested accused, identified as Vinod Singh (32), Ankit Pitroda (24) and Sunil Gupta (35), would allegedly post fake ads of an escort service agency along with their mobile numbers.

“When the interested men would call them, they would ask them to transfer an amount in their bank accounts. After the money had been transferred, they would not respond to their phone calls,” said a police official privy to the case.

The three accused were tracked down by the Cyber police and arrested from Thane, Mulund and Bhandup. The police seized six mobile phones, 11 SIM cards and Rs 49,500 in cash from the said accused.

“Each of these men cheated several customers and each of them made an approximate of Rs 20,000 each month,” the police source added.

A case has been registered against the three accused under sections 465 (Punishment for forgery), 467 (Forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (Using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) of the Indian Penal Code along with other relevant sections of the IT Act.
