Fake currency racket busted in Mumbra

Mumbai: Mumbra police busted a fake currency racket and arrested three persons for disposing fake notes in Rs 2,000 denomination worth Rs 15.76 lakh, on Friday. Acting on a tip-off, the police officials laid a trap at Kismat Colony in Mumbra and arrested the three accused, who had come to dispose fake notes there. The arrested accused have been identified as John Kumar Chhunnilal (41) and Mohammad Dilshad Sharajuddin (26), both belong to the Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh, and Javed Ahmad Ansari (30), a Mumbra resident. John works as a labourer and Dilshad is a compounder for a local doctor in Bijnor.

The main accused, John and Dilshad who taken the fake currency from West Bengal to Thane by train, later met Javed and were thereafter going to circulate it. According to sources, the police received information from their khabris that there are people who will be attempting to circulate fake currency in the denomination of Rs 2,000 in the Mumbra market. The police seized the 788 fake notes in Rs 2000 denomination.

Speaking to The FPJ, Senior Police Inspector Madhukar Kad, Mumbra Police Station, said, “The trio accused have been produced before court and remanded them in police custody till April 5. The three accused were looking for fast cash and sought this way to earn the money without any pain.”  The police is also interrogating the trio to know who are the other players involved in this act and want to investigate the total amount of fake new currency which has been in circulation.
