Fake call centre racket busted, 5 held for conning US nationals

Mumbai: Goregaon Police on Wednesday busted a fake call centre racket for cheating citizens of the US and others countries. They were allegedly cheating them on the pretext of selling medical supplements. A team from the North region, led by the Addl Commissioner arrested five persons, Asif Rajnekar (32), Abhishek Salian (31), Naeem Khan (31), Yogesh Sharma (25) and Pradipkumar Suresh (28). The racket operated from Mumbai, Gujarat and Hyderabad, said police. On Wednesday night, a special team, led by Additional CP, North Region, Dilip Sawant raided a call centre, 'Vedessence Natural' and 'Fortunate Global Marketing', at Motilal Nagar in Goregaon (W).

The raid revealed the centre staff and owners were conning the US citizens, claiming to be officials from the US Social Security Administration. They would instil fear in the customers, alleging they had indulged in a fraud misusing their Social Security Number (SSN). The operators would extort money in the form of gift cards or launder money through illegal methods. The accused had set up all technical systems to procure the data of US citizens. 15 computers, 5 phones, hard disks, servers, routers, laptops and other evidences were seized. Suresh worked as IT head and managed the servers, while Salian, Sharma and Khan operated the centre.
