FAIMA Maharashtra To Host First-Ever State-Level Badminton Tournament For Malayalis

The tournament aims to provide a platform for talented players to showcase their skills and pave their way to state and national-level competitions. Matches will be held in five categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

Navi Mumbai: The Federation of All India Marunaad Malayali Association (FAIMA) Maharashtra Youth Wing is set to organize its first-ever state-level badminton tournament exclusively for Malayali sports enthusiasts across Maharashtra. The highly anticipated event will take place on April 6 at 10 am at ACE ARENA, Nigdi Stadium, Pune.

The tournament aims to provide a platform for talented players to showcase their skills and pave their way to state and national-level competitions. Matches will be held in five categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

Winners will be honoured with cash prizes, trophies, and certificates. Participants must register in advance to compete in the tournament.

Eligibility is limited to members of registered Malayali organizations across all 36 districts of Maharashtra. The organization that accumulates the highest number of points will be awarded the prestigious FAIMA Maharashtra Ever Rolling Badminton Trophy.

The competition will feature six categories, including men’s singles for players below 16 years, with the winner receiving ₹7,500 and the runner-up ₹4,000, and men’s singles for players above 16 years, offering the same prize amounts.

In the men’s doubles category, the winners will be awarded ₹15,000, while the runners-up will receive ₹7,500. Similarly, the women’s singles category will have a prize of ₹7,500 for the winner and ₹4,000 for the runner-up.

The women’s doubles winners will be rewarded with ₹15,000, with the runner-up team receiving ₹7,500. Lastly, the mixed doubles category will also have a ₹15,000 prize for the winners and ₹7,500 for the runners-up.

“The organizers encourage all aspiring players to seize this opportunity and elevate the presence of the Malayali community in Maharashtra’s sports arena. With rackets in hand and colorful jerseys on, participants are urged to gear up for an exciting and competitive event. We have already received more than 30 entries from Mumbai, Buldhana, Aurangabad, Satara, and Kolhapur. We are expecting more than 60 entries,” Maharashtra State FAIMA General Secretary PP Ashokan said.

FAIMA is a socio-cultural organization that represents more than five hundred registered, non-political and non-religious Malayalee associations functioning outside Kerala but within the Indian Territory. FAIMA was formed in 1995 by a massive conference of Marunadan Malayalees held at Bangalore under the leadership of well-known industrialist and philanthropist M.P. Purushothaman.

The main objectives of FAIMA are to foster unity and brotherhood among the various Malayalee associations functioning in India, to organize various activities and programs, and to promote unity and cultural heritage of Kerala. The youth wing president of FAIMA in the state is Arun Krishna, secretary Yashma Anilkumar, and vice president Jibin Chalil.
