Palghar : A 15-year-old girl student who had appeared for her SSC examinations ended her life by hanging herself to the ceiling of her house in Satpati village near Palghar in Thane district on Tuesday noon.

Identified as Samiksha Jitendra Meher, the 15-year-old girl was a student of Yamuna Yashwant Nijap High School in Shirgaon. Samiksha had appeared for her Marathi language paper on Monday and was preparing for next language paper scheduled on Wednesday. Her elder sister alerted neighbours after Samiksha failed to respond to the constant knocks to her study room situated in the upper floor of their single-storey house. Sensing something amiss, neighbours broke open the door, only to find Samiksha hanging from the ceiling with her dupatta.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival. While no suicide note has been recovered, the body has been sent for post-mortem, police said. A case of suicide has been registered at the Satpatti Coastal police station. The youngest amongst three siblings – Samikksha’s father works with a private company in Boisar and her mother is a homemaker.

“Although the exact motive behind the extreme step taken by the student is yet to be ascertained, prima facie it appears that exam-related pressure took toll on the girl. However we are probing all angles,” confirmed, API Harshvardhan Barwe. Further investigations are on.
