Mumbai: In a bid to ensure smooth sailing during the monsoon, the East Coast Railways have taken several steps to ensure safety of passengers. The catch water drains and side drains have been cleared of silt, vegetation and other obstruction to ensure free flow of water during heavy rains. Protective and river training works have been maintained in good condition and repairs have been carried out. While the canals have been marked with bright red mark to highlight the danger zones to make it visible for the patrolmen. The cross drainage systems have been cleared to improve saturation of water on tracks. The Eastern Coastal System have been in constant touch with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for weather alerts.
