MUMBAI: The Shiv Sena which is struggling to maintain their existence in Eastern Vidarbha, has now imported Dushyant Chaturvedi, son of the former Congress leader and former Minister Satish Chaturvedi, who is also considered as a spent force in Nagpur politics. Dushyant is likely to contest South Nagpur constituency from Shiv Sena. Dushyant joined Shiv Sena on Sunday in the presence of Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray at Matoshree, residence of Thackeray. “Dushyant’s entry will strengthen Sena in Vidarbha and he will soon get responsibility in the party,” announced Thackeray while welcoming him. Shiv Sena has now claimed that Dushyant’s entry will strengthen Sena in Vidarbha, however only time can tell. Dushyant is the son of former Textile Minister Satish Chaturvedi. He is currently a senate member of Nagpur University.

His father, Satish Chaturvedi was expelled from the Congress party for anti party activity in February 2018. There were serious differences between Congress State President Ashok Chavan and Satish Chaturvedi over distribution of seats for Nagpur Municipal Corporation. Chaturvedi’s supporters threw ink on Chavan which forced the party to suspend Satish Chaturvedi from the party. He was lobbying to get this suspension revoked before the Lok Sabha election. But his opponents within the party scuttled this move. Therefore, keeping an eye on the forthcoming Assembly election, his son Dushyant joined the Shiv Sena. Dushyant has founded an organisation called Hanuman Sena which has sizeable membership of Hindi speaking people in Nagpur city.

He is currently secretary of Lokmanya Tilak Jankalyan Education Society and this society runs more than 28 colleges and schools in the Nagpur district. Satish Chaturvedi has represented Nagpur East Assembly constituency for as many as five times. After delimitation in 2009, he unsuccessfully contested from East Nagpur in 2009. Later in 2014, he shifted to South Nagpur Constituency and again got defeated by a BJP candidate with huge margin. After 2009’s delimitation, Shiv Sena got South Nagpur from BJP to contest in alliance. Sena’s candidate Kishor Kumeria was defeated by then NCP candidate. In 2014, the BJP and Sena alliance broke and both contested for this constituency.
