Bhiwandi: A six-year-old boy was killed on the spot after being run over by a speeding ‘ghanta gaadi’ (tempo) in Vaitalpada, Bhiwandi, at around 10.30 pm on Wednesday. Sources said the child was accompanying his mother to the market, when he was crushed by the garbage vehicle. The boy’s relatives and locals assaulted the driver and handed him over to police. The accused driver has been identified as Sachin Gosavi, 25, a resident of Shelar village in Bhiwandi. Police booked a case against him under section of 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. Gosavi’s blood sample has been taken to verify if he was drunk at the time of the accident.

The boy’s father, Vijay Londhe, works as a labourer in the city. As soon as Bhiwandi Police were informed about the incident; they rushed to the spot, conducted a panchnama and arrested Gosavi. The body was sent for post-mortem to Indira Gandhi Hospital. Assistant Inspector Durgesh Dubey from Shanti Nagar police station said, “Gosavi was produced in the court on Thursday. He has been sent to magistrate court custody”. The Bhiwandi-Nizampura Municipal Corporation has outsourced garbage collection to a private contractor.
