Thane: The Manpada police in Dombivli have arrested all the accused involved in the allegedly gang rape of a 15-year-old girl. The police team have arrested 31 accused and detained two minors involved in the crime.
The Manpada police on Wednesday had registered a case against 29 people as per the statement of the girl. Later, four more names were added and a case was registered against 33 people.
Four teams were formed by the Thane police to investigate the crime. The team comprising detection officers from the Kalyan division started tracing the accused involved in the crime. "We arrested 24 accused involved in the crime within 8 hours", said Sachin Gunjal, deputy commissioner of police, Zone 3.
The team then started searching for the absconding accused who were hiding at their relatives or friends' places. "Most of them had switched off their mobile phones. Making it difficult for the team to trace them. However, scrutinizing the CCTV footage and with the help of informants, the accused were trace late on Monday," said a police officer.
The police team investigating the case have seized the mobile phones of all the accused to gather evidence and other chats, which will help in the investigation. "Also, the CCTV footage of different spots which captured their movement have been collected to support the case", added the police officer.
All the accused were produced in court and were remanded in police custody.
