Mumbai : Dombivali is the most crowded station among 85 stations on the Central Line of Mumbai Local with 2,33,635 passengers boarding trains on a daily basis from the station. Following this, Central Railways (CR) generates Rs 14,94,538 everyday via collection of fares, revealed a Right to Information (RTI) report.
RTI activist Anil Galgali had filed a query asking for information from the Central Railway administration about the total number of passenger travelling everyday by the local train including income generation and total number of passengers boarding station-wise. “In all the 85 stations of under five services right from CST to Kasara, Khopoli, Panvel, Andheri and Thane-Vashi-Navi Mumbai, the total income generation is Rs 2,19,12,837 and a total of 38,56,419 passengers use railway facility to travel,” said Dr Alok Budkul, senior commercial officer of the Central Railway in reply to Galgali’s RTI query.
Thane stood at the second position with 2,25,490 passengers boarding trains every day following Kalyan (1,80,676), Ghatkopar (1,74,926) and Kurla (1,50,708). Further, Central railway stated that there are total 121 racks that are put in use and a total of 1,618 train trips are made wherein approx one train comprises of 2383 passengers. “The train trips are very less in comparison to the passengers travelling everyday on the Central line. If the train trips are increased, the chances of accidents of passengers will reduce drastically,” said Galgali.
