Mumbai :  A 26-year-old resident doctor working with the Jaslok Hospital was found dead by her colleague in the campus room where she resided. She allegedly committed suicide by injecting herself with an overdose of anesthesia. However, no suicide note was found at the spot.

The cops have registered a case of accidental death. According to the police, the deceased, identified as Divya Machiraju, hails from Hyderabad and her body was discovered at around 6 am on Friday when her colleague and friend went to wake her up at the quarters.

Rajaram Prabhu, senior police inspector of Gamdevi police station, said, “Divya overdosed on anesthesia by injecting herself in the resident doctor’s quarters on the hospital campus”.

The cops believe that the incident may have taken place sometime between 11 pm on Thursday and 6 am on Friday.

The police said that Divya had been practicing in Jaslok Hospital for the past three months. “The body was sent for post mortem examination on Friday night.’’

The family members of the victim’s parents have been informed; they live in Hyderabad.

The police are in the process of recording statements of her colleagues to ascertain the reason that drove Divya to ‘suicide’.
