Mumbai : In a bid to expedite the Metro project execution in the city, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to execute the remaining section of the Metro-2 corridor in one shot. The DN Nagar-Mankhurd corridor has assumed priority now that Dahisar-DN Nagar Metro line is cleared and construction will start soon.
The Metro-II (Dahisar-DN Nagar-Bandra-Mankhurd) corridor was initially planned as 32-km Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd corridor, but was shelved only to be later taken up in three phases by the Devendra Fadnavis-government.
MMRDA officials said the detailed project report (DPR) for the 22-km corridor will be ready by January-end and will be taken up on priority basis along with Metro-4 that will connect Wadala to Kasarvadavli via Ghatkopar and Thane. “The Metro-II section between DN Nagar to Mankhurd will be taken up in a single phase now. We will take up the corridor on priority along with Metro 4,” said Sanjay Sethi, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.
The 18.6-km long, complex corridor linking northern suburb of Dahisar to DN Nagar will be implemented by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for the MMRDA. The civil construction of the corridor will commence latest by March 2016 and is expected to be completed by March 2019.
A senior MMRDA official said the bids for the civil construction will be floated by the DMRC in two weeks.
