Mumbai : The completion date of ambitious Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) which is being closely monitored by the Railway Minister has been preponed and the drawings of the project have been finalised.
In a recent letter to the Central Railway (CR), Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation (DFCC) has asked the branch officers of CR to expedite the work of removing utilities for commencing the ground work between JNPT-Vaitarna. The section in which work for the DFC is to be held in CR includes the section from Jasai to Vasai.
A senior official from CR said, “We have held meeting with the corporation officials and the work is in advance stage. We will initiate the work for removing utilities immediately after the monsoon tender for which are being called for.”
The biggest hurdle for the project on CR was it passing from Panvel. The DFC passing from Panvel would be an intersection with CST-Panvel corridor also terminating at it along with Panvel being developed into a satellite terminus. “The biggest problem was to finalise the drawings at Panvel which has been recently completed,” added the official.
The DFC once completed is expected to improve freight revenue by improving their capacity from 1 billion to 1.5 billion. It will help railway carry the freight which will come at JNPT port. It will also help CR in improving their goods carrying capacity which has gone down with the increase in congestion on tracks.
