Mumbai : Directorate of Technical Edu-cation (DTE) has increased the deadline for submission of ap-plications for polytechnic cour-ses in technical institutes acro-ss the state. Some officials said that deadline is increased due to pressure from technical ins-titutes. According to DTE offic-ials, till the previous deadline DTE had received only 91,369 applications against the total capacity of 1,85,036 seats acro-ss the state. In that case, half of the colleges would have gone empty resulting in loss to edu-cation institutes. After request from technical institutes, the deadline has been increased by five days. The original deadline was June 30 which is extended to July 5 in a hope that more students will apply for the courses. Director of technical education S K Mahajan said, “Fresh students can also file applications and those whose applications had failed due to lack of documents can submit the papers and confirm their applications.”
