Mumbai : Commuters will have to soon deal with restricted train services on Central Railway as officials are mulling over a 24-hour block for the demolition of Hancock and Carnac bridges. During the block, CST station will be out of bounds for commuters. The trains on the main line will only run up to Byculla while on the Harbour line, they will terminate at Wadala station.
Both of these bridges were declared dangerous a year ago. However, until now, the work for shifting the utilities under the bridges has not been initiated by the BMC. Chief engineer (Bridges) SO Kori said: “We intend to hand over the bridges for demolition by November 30.”
However, an official from CR said: “If the demolition process is taken up in October, it won’t affect long-distance commuters as there are no special trains or festivals.” However, in November, it will affect a huge number of commuters as several long distance trains will be affected.
