Mumbai: The Juhu police on Monday traced and returned the bag of a Kenyan national who forgot his bag containing Rs 2 lakh in Kenyan currency. Jayendra Kumar Devani , a dental surgeon by profession, had come to Mumbai for a visit a few days ago. On Monday, while Devani was travelling in an autorickshaw, he accidentally forgot his bag and approached the police immediately after realising his bag was missing.
According to the police, Devani was staying at a Santacruz-based hotel and was on his way to visit a friend in the suburban area. Devani then took an autorickshaw to reach his destination. When Devani got off the autorickshaw, he realised he left his bag had Kenyan currencies and his travel documents including his passport. Devani then immediately rushed to his hotel where he was asked to approach Juhu police station.
Juhu police began their investigation and managed to track down the autorickshaw numbered MH-02-EQ-3331 driver from the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) and within 30 minutes, the driver Vinodkumar Gupta was traced. Police then successfully recovered all the cash and other crucial documents. Pandharinath Wavhal, senior police inspector of Juhu police station said, “After tracing the vehicle to the driver, Gupta, we gave him a call. Gupta informed he had gone to his residence for a lunch break and had no idea of the bag.
Realising the gravity of the situation, Gupta rushed to the police station with the bag and handed over the bag to Devani. Gupta was also facilitated by Devani.” Devani thanked the Juhu police for their swift action which helped him recover his cash and travel documents, without which he would have landed in trouble, said police.
