Mumbai: Wadala police have arrested a police constable for molesting a four-year-old girl. The constable, Sanjay Waghmode, 32, was attached to local arms unit. According to police, the incident took place on June 14, when the child was on her way to buy a chocolate. Waghmode lured her by offering a chocolate and asked her to come to his home, where he unzipped his pants and offered her ‘chocolate’. The girl got scared with this behaviour, and ran away from his house. A senior police officer said he repeated the offence on June 18. Waghmode again asked the same girl to come to his place, but she refused and ran away to her house. Her brother saw her state and asked what had happened to her. That is when she narrated the sequence of events to her brother, who narrated it to their mother after she returned from work.
After listening to her eight-year-old son, the mother visited the Wadala Police station and registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty (354 A) and sections of Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) act sections 8, 10 and 12.
Waghmode was attached to local arms unit, Tardeo, prior to this, he was posted at Trombay police station. According to sources at Trombay police station, a woman had complained of stalking against him. After the latest incident, Waghamode was suspended.
