Nagpur: Lawlessness seems to be on the rise in Nagpur, the home-town of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. In the latest instance, the reputation of Nagpur police has been sullied.
A police commando’s friend was in an illicit relationship with a married woman and to help the couple get rid of her husband, who was the ‘obstacle’ in their path, the upholder of the law is alleged to have helped the couple get rid of him. Reportedly, he helped facilitate a supari killing to help out his friend, handing out a supari of Rs 3 lakh to the killers to kill the woman’s husband.
The husband was lured out of town under the pretext of a party and was handed over to the supari killers, as the duo returned to Nagpur. The killers bumped off the man and fled the scene. Police began investigations and have taken into custody the man’s wife, her lover and the police commando.
Prior to this incident, the police have been implicated in cases of dacoity, cash van loot, dancing at the party of an underworld gangster and alliance with drug mafia. But with this incident, the Nagpur Police may have earned the dubious distinction of ‘finding’ contract killers, a far cry from being enforcers of the law
