Cop dies in drunk driving mishap after drunk driving duty

Mumbai :  A traffic cop going home after a nakabandi for drunk driving was knocked down and killed by a drunk driver at 1.45 am on Monday.

Sub-inspector Rajaram Desai (53) from the Chembur Traffic Division Rajaram Desai was riding pillion with constable Shankar Kadam (42) when a car hit them from behind on the JVLR flyover.

Desai suffered head injuries and expired at the Fortis Hospital, Mulund, at 3 am. Kadam suffered injuries on his hand and lips. The accused, Nilesh Modi (36), was intoxicated. He had either consumed alcohol or drugs, the police said.
