Mumbai : BJP’s Chandrakant Patil, Minister for Co-operatives and Marketing, last week announced that the government will reconsider the Central policy of direct trade between the farmer and the consumer without the intervention of APMC. However, Shiv Sena’s Subhash Desai, Industries Minister, who had moved the retail policy, which got ‘in principle’ nod from the cabinet earlier this week, said the policy has already allowed the direct deal. “The policy cleared by the cabinet on Tuesday allows direct trade between farmers and consumers, without APMC as mediator,” Desai said here on Friday. Patil had last week said that the state government will study the impact as APMC had been brought in to ensure that farmers get proper price and should not get cheated.
“It is obvious that APMC or traders will oppose the move but we thought of farmers and direct consumers. So we will not back out,” Desai added
