Mumbai : The BMC committee set up to probe irregularities in nullah desilting work in the city submitted its report to the Standing Committee on Friday. The report stated that contractors had misused 70% of the budget sanctioned for desilting of nullahs.
Every year, the desilting project is carried out to clear sewage accumulated in nullas so as to prevent flooding. In the state budget session, MLA Ashish Shelar had pointed out that the desilting of nullas work was not carried out transparently by the contractors and the budget is being misused, following the committe was formed for a probe. The report says that there are around 70% fake entries made in around 23,800 log sheets of the 57,561 sewage carrying vehicles and the weighing scales data entries.
Meanwhile, Ashish Shelar has demanded immediate and strict action against contractors and BMC officials involved in the corruption.
