Mumbai : A constable attached to DN Nagar police station has been arrested for sexual harassment and criminal intimidation by the Kasturba police station. The constable allegedly threatened couples at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) in Borivali and extracted money from them. The accused constable has been identified as Prasad Dalvi.
According to the police, Dalvi is a resident of Borivali east and used to approach couples and threatened to take them to the police station for obscene behavior. Whoever would get caught by Dalvi would immediately settle the matter by paying bribe.
Police were unaware by Dalvi’s action until Tuesday when he approached a couple in civil dress and started threatening them. Dalvi later touched and misbehaved with the woman and so the man started arguing with Dalvi.
In the meantime, constables who were on patrolling reached the spot and inquired about the matter.
When the complainant recalled the matter, the constables took him to the Kasturba police station where, after registering statements of the victims, an FIR was registered against Dalvi.
“Dalvi has manhandled the woman and threatened the couple and so he has been booked under section 354 (a) and 506 of Indian Penal Code,” said a police officer.
“Dalvi used to come to the national park and threatened the couples. The case against him has been registered after the victim gave statement to us,” added the officer.
Even after repeated attempts, Suhas Raikar, senior police inspector of Kasturba police station, was unavailable for comments. Meanwhile, DCP Zone XII Ram Kumar confirmed the arrest.
