Congress leader sidelines Gurudas Kamat loyalist in DCC appointment

Mumbai: The Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday approved the list of appointments of district president, working president and general secretaries of Mumbai District Congress Committee (DCC).  Mumbai unit president, while making appointments, has sidelined loyalist of late Gurudas Kamat, except .

Nirupam get approval from All India Congress Committee to appoint Ashok Sutale as DCC president for North Mumbai, Praniel Nair for North East Mumbai district and Clive Dias as DCC president of North West Mumbai.  Surprisingly, Clive was in Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) during 2014 Lok Sabha polls. He had acted against Kamat in the polls. Later, Clive joined Congress and Nirupam made him district president.

A loyalist to Kamat, on condition of anonymity, claimed, “Mallikarjun Kharge, general secretary of AICC and state-in charge and Ashish Dua, another GS and state-in charge are playing in hands of Nirupam and giving step motherly treatment to Kamat loyalist.”

He added that Mahesh Kamat has only been accommodated as he was Kamat’s first choice as district president and has been strongly opposing Nirupam’s candidature from Mumbai North West constituency. Meanwhile, the AICC has approved the appointments of eight vice presidents, nine general secretaries and eight secretaries for the three districts within Mumbai.
