Mumbai: Mumbai Regional Congresss Committee (MRCC) has demanded a probe into the decision to install LED lighting at the Marine Drive as a delegation under his leadership met Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao here on Wednesday.

A 25 member delegation under the leadership of MRCC president Sanjay Nirupam sought investigation in the issue of awarding of contract of installing LED bulbs in Mumbai ‘without following due process’.

Shiv Sena, who is a partner of the BJP in state as well as the central government, has alleged that the decision to install LED lights at Marine Drive in Mumbai was implemented without following proper procedure. Since a part of the government has levelled the allegations, they need to be investigated thoroughly. They need to be investigated either by CBI or by a retired judge of high court, the memorandum given to the governor has demanded.

Taxpayer’s money is involved and people have right to know the truth, Nirupam told reporters later. The governor listened to us and assured that he would act on it, Nirupam added.

The Congress party delegation also demanded restoring International Financial Hub to Mumbai.

The decision to shift International Financial Hub to Ahmadabad is influenced by politics, Nirupam Said.
