Mumbai : Commuters suffer as the rail-ways and the BEST have locked horns over providing space outside Bhandup and Kanjur-marg railway stations for sett-ing up queue shelter and cho-wkys for parking buses along with rest rooms for drivers. BEST has made the demand with increase in bus operations over the last two years. The operation has increased to the tune of 364 trips per day out-side Kanjurmarg railway station while it was merely 12 buses in 2013. The passenger turnover has also increased to 30,000 every day which has made set-ting up of the bus shelter an absolute necessity. Similarly, bus operations outside Bhan-dup station has gone up to 851 trips per day ferrying a total of 43,000 passengers. An official from BEST said, “At present bus chowky is located at an extre-mely inconvenient place due to which bus operations are badly affected.” The railways, on the other hand, have stated that the chowky cannot be set up in railway premises due to space constraint.
