Mumbai : Over 13 commuters who had mistakenly boarded a service train which was headed to the Kalwa car shed jumped out of a moving train as it was passing along platform number 1 of Vikroli station on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident happened at 11.07 am when suburban local train bound for the Kalwa railway car shed reached Vikhroli station’s platform number one, where passengers jumped from the slow-moving train.
“Passengers boarded a train at Kurla not realising that it was headed to Kalwa car shed as there were no announcements made about the same,” said an official from Government Railway Police (GRP).
The passengers boarded the train from Kurla as there was no announcement made. However after the train did not come to a halt at two stations, Vidyavihar and Ghatkopar, the commuters began to panic.
An official from GRP explained, “As the train was moving at a slow speed the commuters jumped out of the train, but did not sustain major injuries and no complaint was registered. However, an entry has been made in the station master’s dairy about the incident.”
But Chief PRO of CR Naredra Patil said, “Generally adequate announcements are made beforehand about a train heading to a car shed. It is unlikely that there would be no announcement made and if it has so happened, then the incident will be taken up very seriously.”
