Cops suggest fruits may be cause of cocaine traces in Indrani Mukerjea’s urine sample, say level too insignificant for probe
Mumbai : While jail authorities have ruled out drug overdose in Indrani Mukerjea’s hospitalisation, they had no clear answer on the presence of cocaine found in Indrani’s urine sample.
“The amount found was 35 nanograms per milliliter of blood which is an insignificant level. It would have been a cause of suspicion had the amount been over 100 or nearing 300 nanograms. These amounts are not grounds for investigation,” said Maharashtra Principal Secretary (Home) Vijay Satbir Singh.
Despite repeated questioning by the media-persons present, the authorities could give no concrete explanation about even the negligible traces of cocaine found in Indrani’s urine sample.
“Cocaine can be found in pesticides sprayed on fruits and vegetables we consume. That could be the reason the trace exists,” was the reply given by IG Bipin Kumar Singh, IG Prisons and Bhushan Kumar Upadhaye, ADG, Prisons.
The authorities who ruled out attempt to suicide or an attempt to poison Indrani, said, “We have gone through CCTV footage and also recorded Indrani’s statement where she claims that she did not hoard tablets nor was she given more tablets. We have also questioned her police official on duty who confirmed the same,” said Upadhaye.
The Jail authorities also revealed that Indrani had now been diagnosed with Chronic Ischemia, a condition which causes low blood supply to the brain.

What is Chronic Ischemia?
According to Dr Rakesh Singh, neurologist at Kohinoor Hospital, Chronic Ischemia is a condition wherein there is insufficient blood supply to the brain and could lead to stroke or paralytic attack in severe conditions.
This is especially found in elderly, hypertension and diabetic people. However,
we always find ischemic changes in our body which is divided between mild, moderate and severe.
Clopitab is basically given for blood thinning so that there are no further complications in the person’s health.
