Mumbai : The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation may ditch the cloud seeding option to fetch extra water for catchment areas, senior civic officials said. However, a committee comprising civic officials from the hydraulic engineering department, experts from IMD and IIT-B, that was formed to scrutinise and choose one among the two bids received from companies to carry out the cloud seeding process, will still carry on its work, the official said.

“However, with the current lake levels, we might not go ahead with the process,” the official said.

The civic body, however, is making all efforts to save water. “After the Modak Sagar started overflowing, we decided to reduce the water cut to 10 per cent. However, we are still trying our best to save water, so we are not using water from Bhatsa lake and letting it get full. We are providing water from the Bhatsa river,” additional municipal commissioner Rajiv Jalota said.
