Mumbai : Two incidents of rape have occurred in Nahur and Antop Hill, in which a 9-year-old and a 16-year-old girl respectively were raped. The Navghar and Antop Hill police have registered complaints of kidnapping and rape in the case.
In the Antop Hill case, the 16-year-old girl had run away from home a day after her parents scolded her for coming home late. On November 20, the girl went to her close friend, Abu Shankar Devendra, residing in Vile Parle. On November 24, Devendra took the girl to his home and raped her. Meanwhile, the victim’s family had already launched a missing complaint in Antop Hill police station after she had run away. The police on Saturday arrested Devendra and charged him with kidnapping and rape as the girl is a minor.
In the other incidence of rape, a 9-year-old girl was found lying unconscious at Nahur railway station. A group of lawyers took the girl to Sion hospital, where, after a medical check-up, it was declared that the girl had been raped. The next day, a couple came to the police station to complain about their missing daughter. It later was learnt that the rape victim was the couple’s missing daughter.
The family of three lives on a footpath in Bhandup and work as garbage collectors. The parents told the police that a stranger had kidnapped the girl. The police, after further investigations, found that the girl had been raped in the cluster of trees near Nahur railway station and abandoned on the railway platform. They also collected some bottles of alcohol from the spot. The police are still searching for the accused.
