5 arrested for murder of NCP leader’s son
MUMBAI: Five people were arrested by Malvani police for allegedly killing the son of an NCP leader in Madh Island. According to the police, the deceased, Jitendra Patil, was found stuffed in a jute bag at the residence of his friend Mahesh Koli in Bhaati village, Madh Island on Friday evening. The arrested accused were identified as Silvesh Koli, Rajesh Patel, Kaustubh Sawant and Lawrence Baddhi from Madh Island.
1 killed, 2 injured in blast at Sakinaka unit
Mumbai: A 23-year-old man died while two sustained severe burns after a blast occurred in a powder-coating unit at Sakinaka in the early hours of Sunday. The Sakinaka police have arrested two of the owners of the unit under the charges of negligence. According to the police, deceased Sunil Yadav, a labourer working in the unit, was declared dead when he was rushed to a civic-run hospital. While Mohammad Kalam (25) and Mohammad Asfaq Ansari (19) suffered severe burns.
Bar owner hangs self at residence
Mumbai: A 45-year-old bar owner committed suicide at his residence in Borivali on Saturday morning. The police said victim Hiren Shah, owner of Charwak Bar, was found hanging from a ceiling fan on Saturday morning by his family members. The Borivali police said he was facing financial problems which led the victim to take the drastic step. A case of accidental death has been registered by Borivali police.
Fake rly ticket agents in GRP net
MUMBAI: The Government Railway Police (GRP) of Mumbai Central arrested six persons, including a woman, for posing as authorized railway ticket agents and duping a small time businessman of Rs 3000 on Saturday. The arrested accused were identified as Jeetsingh Chauhan (26), Jayram Rai (35), Dipak Navgire (38), Akram Khan (23), Jaykumar Naidu (27), and Rahimunnisa Shaikh alias Bhabhi (55). According to the GRP officials, a 42-year-old Rajendra Chandelia, a resident of Chembur, was enquiring about train tickets to Jaipur, when the accused approached him. They told him that the charge would be Rs 3,000 for Jaipur tickets. The victim identified the group, following which, they were booked for cheating and acts of common intention under Sections 420 and 34 of the IPC.
Woman’s body found near Vihar Lake
MUMBAI: The charred body of a woman was found lying near Vihar Lake on Sunday afternoon. The locals who saw the body raised an alarm after which the cops rushed to the spot. Powai cops have sent the body for post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death and alerted other police stations across Mumbai.
Nigerian arrested for illegal stay
Mumbai: The Malwani police with the help of ANC officials arrested a 45-year-old Nigerian national, who managed to stay in India without renewing his business visa for over three years, on Saturday night.
According to Malwani police, the accused, identified as Ukachukwu Peter Akabueze, had rented a room No.15, Plot No.16, Astha Gandha Society, MHADA Colony in Malwani.
