Rail fracture disrupts CR services yet again

MUMBAI: A day after disruption due to a unit failure, services on Central Railway (CR) on Wednesday were affected following a rail fracture between Nahur and Mulund stations during the early hours of morning.

A rail fracture was detected between Nahur and Mulund at 9.30 am in the morning. The CST Down trains on the slow line were affected and diverted on to the Up fast line. It took the authorities around 20 minutes to restore the tracks following which the services were normal by 9.53 am. Another incident of trespassing at Thane delayed trains by 15 to 20 minutes.

State govt employees put off stir

MUMBAI: The indefinite strike by Maharashtra government employees, scheduled to begin on Thursday, has been put off, following a meeting with Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan here on Wednesday. “We have decided to put off the strike, after detailed discussions with the Chief Minister on our demands,” G D Kulthe, Chief Advisor of Maharashtra State Gazetted Officer Federation said. The Federation had on February 4, announced the decision to go on an indefinite strike from February 13.

Cong-NCP LS drive from February 23

MUMBAI: With Congress-NCP finalising their seat sharing arrangement in Maharashtra for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, both coalition partners will now embark on a joint campaign with a public rally here on February 23. Congress sources said the rally will mostly be held in Mumbai and will be attended by leaders of both parties. A joint campaign committee is likely to be set up in the next few days to plan election and campaign strategy and holding of joint public meetings, sources informed. The final list of seats to be contested by both parties will be declared by February 15.

Suraj Pancholi appears before court

MUMBAI: A month after Mumbai police filed a chargesheet against him for abetting the suicide of Bollywood actress Jiah Khan, Suraj Pancholi appeared before the trial court here on Wednesday. “Suraj, son of actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, appeared before the court on Wednesday and the court adjourned the case till next month,” said advocate Dinesh Tiwari who is appearing in the case on behalf of Jiah’s mother Rabiya.

45 counters to be earmarked at  20 stns

MUMBAI: With the holiday seasons fast approaching, the Central Railway (CR) has decided to earmark 45 counters at 20 stations on Mumbai Division for passengers who desire to travel alone or with family.

A passenger will have to submit a self-attested copy of ID proof along with original ID for verification. This will come into force from February 13. The earmarked counters will be open for advanced reservation period (60 days) from 8 am and remain open till 9: 45 am. Whereas Tatkal tickets will be available at these counters from 9.45 am to 10:30 am. These counters will be operation till April 4.

The 45 counters will be: Ambarnath (2), Belapur (1), Bhiwandi Road (1), Bhandup (1), Byculla (2), Chembur (1), CST (10), Dombivli (2), Dadar (1), Ghatkopar (2), Kalyan (5), Lonavla (1), LTT (3), Mumbra (1), Mulund (2), Panvel (1), Thane (5), Ulhasnagar (1), Vartak Nagar (1) & Vashi (2).
