Mumbai: A south Mumbai-based builder has been arrested by the V P Road police officials in a cheating and forgery case. The case was registered after a rationing officer complained about the builder, police said. The accused, Bhupesh Jain, was arrested on Saturday and is currently in judicial custody. According to the police, Janardhan Shedke, the rationing officer, found that Jain had submitted a forged ration card at the rationing office during the construction of a high-rise at VP Road. According to the police, “Shedke had taken certain permissions for FSI (floor space index) from the BMC authorities by producing forged ration card”. Jain, is a builder of Earth Castle, a high rise located at VP Road which was constructed around eight years ago, during which he submitted forged ration cards, police said. In July 2013 Shedge, while going through the documents realised that the ration cards were forged following which he approached the police. “We had registered a first information report (FIR) against Jain and started conducting inquiries into the case. As soon as his involvement was ascertained, he was arrested,” said senior inspector Rajendra Chavan. Two more persons are wanted in the case.
