Thane: A gang of chors with swords have attacked a chowkidar and priest of Vajreshwari temple and escaped with five donation boxes containing Rs 7.50 lakh. This incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, when five unidentified robbers wearing mask robbed five donation boxes from the famous Vajreshwari temple in Bhiwandi taluka. Two donation boxes were kept in the outside arena and three were inside the temple.
At around 3.00 am on Friday, the dacoits entered from the back entrance of the temple, beaten up the chowkidar and tied him with a rope and pieces of cloth. The the thieves broke open the donation boxes of temple and escaped with the cash. The Ganeshpuri police have registered a case of robbery against unidentified persons. The cash was donated by the devotees, mostly during the recently-concluded Navratri fair, Deputy Superintendent of Police of Ganeshpuri division, Dilip Godbole, said.
“We have formed five separate police teams and are trying to get hold of all the CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the suspects,” he added. They are also investigating if there is an insider’s job in the theft. “We are investigating the matter from different angles,” the police said.
